The aim of this research is an economic and financial analysis of sunflower production in Serbia and Bulgaria. The authors analyse the cultivated areas, production value, and yield of sunflower in both countries during the period from 2014 to 2023. The analysis also includes producer prices and the role of sunflower in foreign trade exchange in Bulgaria and Serbia during the same period. The applied methods involve descriptive statistics, analysis and synthesis, desk-research, and the comparative research method. The research is based on the fact that both countries have very similar climatic and geographical characteristics, water resources, as well as access to high-quality hybrids and other necessary agrotechnical measures for sunflower production. The difference lies in the financial support for production, given that Bulgaria is entitled to incentives from the EU budget, while Serbia does not have the right to use this financial support. The authors conclude that, despite the similarities and differences between the two countries, successful and profitable sunflower production can be achieved by combining several measures to improve production, as stated in the paper. These measures can help improve the efficiency and yield of sunflower, while minimizing risks and optimizing resources.

In this study the current status of the egg poultry sector in Türkiye was examined, taking Afyonkarahisar, Manisa, and Konya, where production is most intensive, and Antalya, Burdur, and Isparta as examples. Research data were obtained through face-to-face interviews conducted with 68 egg-producing enterprises selected using the stratified random sampling method. Within the scope of the SWOT analysis, the strengths and weaknesses of the sector, along with opportunities and threats, were identified, and these findings were further evaluated from a strategic perspective through the SOR (Strategic Orientation) analysis. The research findings indicate that increasing domestic raw material production and reducing dependency on imports are essential for lowering feed costs. Furthermore, to ensure continuity in the egg market and maintain price stability, it is crucial to develop technological infrastructure that allows eggs to be preserved for longer periods in liquid or dried forms. Extending the shelf life of eggs and encouraging a shift toward high-value-added products will enhance competitiveness in both domestic and international markets, thereby contributing to the sustainability of the sector.

Agricultural labour dynamics in transition economies, particularly in the Balkans, have undergone significant shifts due to structural changes, migration trends, and evolving labour market conditions. Understanding how smallholders allocate their labour is crucial, as they form the backbone of agricultural production but face increasing challenges in sustaining their livelihoods. This study examines farm labour dynamics in the largest agriculture region in North Macedonia, the Pelagonia Region, exploring how smallholders allocate their labour amid broader labour market shifts and migration trends. Employing a synthesis approach, this study explores the interaction between agricultural households, migration patterns, and structural changes in the labour market. Findings reveal a reliance on family labour, with seasonal hiring filling gaps, though constraints on flexibility and productivity persist. Labour shortages, an aging workforce, and limited farm succession planning pose challenges to long-term sustainability. Slow structural transformation, low innovation uptake, and restricted diversification hinder adaptation to economic shifts. The policy recommendation framework focuses on three key areas: enhancing access to agricultural training, fostering modernisation through innovation, and increasing youth engagement to ensure a stable workforce. The study provides a contextualised analysis that can inform similar regions, demonstrating the applicability of established labour theories in agricultural contexts.

This study examines the agricultural productivity and land use efficiency of two key arable crops, wheat and sunflower seed, across all 41 Romanian counties for a period of 34 years, from 1990 to 2023. The research aims to measure and compare crop productivity, overall efficiency, identify high and under-performing counties, and propose interventions for enhancing regional agricultural performance. Data on crop yields (output per hectare) and land use efficiency (relative to the baseline year of 1990) are analyzed to identify trends and regional disparities in agricultural performance. The findings highlight significant variability in productivity and efficiency across counties, with certain regions, such as Călărași and Timiș, consistently outperforming others. In contrast, counties like Tulcea and Harghita exhibit moderate performance with room for improvement in both productivity and efficiency. This study identifies key factors influencing agricultural performance, such as technological adoption, infrastructure, and climate conditions, and suggests targeted interventions, including technology adoption, farmer education, infrastructure improvements and financial support, to enhance the agricultural output and resource use efficiency in underperforming counties. The findings offer insights into the regional disparities in agricultural performance and provide a framework for policy interventions aimed at boosting the productivity and sustainability of Romanian agriculture.

This study ascertained how climate change affects cassava production in Nigeria. The study was done based on a 60-year dataset covering rainfall, temperature, relative humidity, and sunshine duration from 1963-2022, using multiple regression models, unit root, and co-integration tests for assessment of these climate variables' influence on the yield of cassava. The results indicated that temperature had the most substantial positive effect on cassava production (β=28,422,368.77, p=0.000), followed by relative humidity (coefficient = 147,217.28, p=0.000) and rainfall (β = 22,111.27, p=0.034). Sunshine duration, however, showed no significant effect (p=0.892). The model’s high R-squared value (0.705) supported its robustness, and diagnostic tests confirmed no issues with serial correlation or heteroskedasticity. These findings highlighted the vulnerability of cassava production to climate variability and suggested the need for adaptive measures to sustain agri-food system in Nigeria.

The objective of this research is to analyze the competitiveness and volatility of Benin’s cotton export prices. The study utilizes monthly data covering the period from January 2010 to December 2023, collected from the FAO (Faostat) and the International Trade Centre (ITC) and analyzed using EViews 12 software. Competitiveness was assessed using the Revealed Comparative Advantage (RCA) and Net Export Index (NEI). Price volatility was examined through the ADF stationarity test and time series econometric models, specifically ARIMA, ARCH, and GARCH. The findings from the NEI and RCA indices indicate that Benin consistently exports more cotton than it imports and holds a substantial comparative advantage in this sector. In terms of price fluctuations, the GARCH(1,1) model, chosen according to statistical criteria, highlights notable and sustained volatility. Projections from this model suggest a rising trend in price volatility, pointing to an upcoming period of increased uncertainty in Benin’s cotton export markets. These findings provide crucial insights for the development of economic and trade policies aimed at mitigating market risks, optimizing investments, and improving decision-making among stakeholders in the cotton sector.

Developing emotional intelligence (EQ) brings numerous benefits in different aspects of a person life, including interpersonal relationships, career, school and mental health. Thinking before acting is an essential element. Emotionally intelligent people know that they must act, they know that emotions are strong and intense, but also that the need to control impulses is fierce. It is not only social constraints that dictate this direction, it is about the conscious tempering of impulses that comes from the complexity of understanding and correct reasoning. A greater awareness of one's own emotions, feelings and needs then extends to the others too. People with developed and fully aware emotional intelligence also show an associated empathy, which comes from understanding how we would react if we were in the same situation. Based on these considerations, the present study aimed to capture how different people, in terms of age, gender and occupation, act in different contexts and which dimensions of emotional intelligence are predominant, depending on the mentioned characteristics. For this purpose, it was used a standardized questionnaire, elaborated by Daniel Goleman, with 10 multiple-choice questions, to which we added 3 filter questions for a better in-depth study, applied to a sample of 320 respondents, from the student category, institutional sector and private sector. The correlations between the items were analyzed using the theoretical χ2 test. Following the study, we cannot conclude that age has a significant importance in the components of emotional intelligence, but the results from the socio-professional groups gave us some important clues. The fact that students obtained the highest score is probably the result of the introduction into the study program of disciplines that directly or indirectly develop this type of intelligence, and the field that had a close score was the private economic sector, where most people are administrators and, in the competitive context of our economy, they had to develop leadership skills in order for their business to work.

The paper analyzes the dynamics of human resources in rural Romania from 2021 to 2023, highlighting major trends and associated socio-economic implications. Key aspects examined include the evolution of the resident population, household structures, labor force, access to the internet, and adult participation in education, focusing on differences between urban and rural areas. The findings indicate a general decline in the total population; however, the rural population experienced a modest increase, suggesting internal migration from urban areas is likely due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The structure of rural households remained relatively stable, with a slight increase in the average number of members in certain social categories. Research results showed that employment rates and active participation in the labor market in rural areas have decreased. In contrast, the unemployment rate remained relatively high, amidst economic challenges and a lack of job opportunities for the population. Access to the internet has significantly increased in rural areas, partially narrowing the gap compared to urban areas. Participation in non-formal and informal education was higher in urban areas than in rural ones, reflecting the unequal access of the population to educational opportunities. From a socio-economic perspective, the study suggests the need for public policies that address regional disparities, support job creation, and facilitate access to education and digital infrastructure in rural areas. Implementing concrete measures is essential to reduce the gaps between rural and urban areas and to stimulate sustainable development in rural Romania.
