The paper aimed to present the analysis of the situation and opportunities for the development of rural tourism in the lesser known tourist destinations that have attractive natural landmarks, historical heritage and folklore traditions. Separate settlements were selected in mountain and lowland areas, to distinguish and specify their specific problems. Rural tourism establishments – guest house and a house with a courtyard and a farm were surveyed during the period 2009 – 2016. In the study used the following methods: questionnaire survey among the owners of sites for rural tourism; polls among members of the rural tourism product; the method of comparison; the experimental method; SWOT-analysis of the strengths and weaknesses in the operation of the sites for rural tourism in the studied localities. Diversification of economic activities in small settlements (less than 300 inhabitants) for the development of improved conditions of rural tourism, growing role of services in the local economy: retail trade, transport, communications, etc.; more effectively conserve nature and cultural heritage; with employment persist people of working age in the small settlement. So the integration between rural tourism and other activities support economic revitalization of the area, preserve and stabilize the small settlements and improve the lives of the people in them.

Optimization in agriculture can have various forms, depending on its various processes or the market evolution. It can be financial or product-based and can lead to minimization, if related to costs, or maximization, related to profit. In this paper we will present a method of determining an optimal repartition of an agricultural surface for a number of cultures based on a genetic algorithm in order for the profit to be maxim. The model takes into consideration several requirements related to cultures selling price, obtained production, direct costs and costs related to human workforce. The genetic algorithm uses basic structures (chromosomes, genes) and operations (mutation, crossover) to generate a repartition. In this case, the chromosomes are defined as the surface itself, a gene within a chromosome being the surface for a specific culture. The length of the chromosome is equal to the number of cultures desired to be cultivated. The operations are basic and will be described in the paper. The fitness function is defined as the difference between the incomes and the costs, thus the profit. The results will be then compared to the results obtained by the traditional method that uses linear programming.

Knowing that we have respected the 3-4 years crop rotation, in the previous years we did not realise the damages caused by pests of the potato. In some cases, even knowing that the land was pest-free, we found that certain species are present, such as globodera wireworms, ditylenchus, meloidogyne and pratylenchu. Root mites /rhizoglyphus echnopus/ can cause serious damage. Their damage is twofold, the first one being direct and the second one indirect. Indirect damage consists of the fact that the pests open the doors to secondary infections which reach the lesions by clinging to the insects. Afterwards the fungi and bacteria can cause to these lesions bigger damage than the primary pests. Looking for the reasons of such infestation and presence of pests in the soil, asking for other experts’ opinions on soil analysis, it was earnestly started to think about controlling these pests. Being aware of the existence of biological pest control, it was contacted the company BIÓVÉD 2005 kft which provided the hyperparasitic fungus Arthrobotris oligospora. The research performed in parallel on crops such as tomatoes, cucumbers, cabbage, cauliflower, peppers, carrots, parsley, in the vegetable fields in the South-East of Hungary and in the Covasna County depression. The purpose of the paper was to monitor the activity of the A. Oligospora fungus in the soil at various temperatures, at various stages of the life cycle of the potato crop and to apply the optimal dosage of fungus on a preset surface. The conclusion was that the treatment split between autumn and spring gives the best results because the rains falling in August – September and March respectively help the hyperparasitic fungus to penetrate the soil at the proper depths for it to take effect.

Romania has a relatively new history of the organic market, but increase the number of operators registered in the system is a spectacular one. Currently Romanian agriculture is going through a long and difficult transition from centralized economy to the European economy. In these conditions, organic agriculture is an opportunity for the rural population to increase their standard of living, which is far behind the European economy while respecting "sustainable development" by: environmental protection, natural resource conservation, preservation and promotion of cultural values in these areas, keeping the population in rural areas by removing the population exodus, diversification and promotion of occupational opportunities, in order to reduce unemployment in rural areas. This paper aimed to analyze the application of the concept of sustainability in agriculture by organic farming in Sibiu County, a central region of Romania, where it is the largest producer organic in the country, where organic agriculture is applied in the half of village number in the county and where most organic operators are grouped in a core (Vurpar). Methods used followed the knowing awareness among organic operators about benefits of organic farming about human health and environment. The main conclusion of this study is that the operators are aware of benefits and they must look for corresponding methods for products development recovery by getting value added.

Agricultural engineering cannot promote economic recovery in Nigeria through food and agro-raw materials production in the midst of rampant and colossal failures of Arable crops farm mechanization projects. Good leadership virtues (which include integrity, statesmanship, productivity, respects, love, etc) have been eroded in Nigeria so much so that the success of an individual is now being weighed on the wrong scale of senseless materialism. The extent of material accumulation, level of damages notwithstanding, influences stake in award of honorary, chieftaincy and academic titles amongst other types of reward from the ruling class, either in government or traditional institutions in our society today. These looters act with impunity while the common working class people watch helplessly and hopelessly afraid of losing the little income earning jobs they have at hand should they attempt to either behave rightly or ask for same from the ruling class. In so many instances they feel safer to aid and abet for survival on their jobs. This ugly and destructive scenario pervade all spheres of activities in Nigeria. The results are hunger, starvation and abject poverty of great majority of citizens in the midst of the plenty nature has endowed the country with. Farm mechanization projects and programmes have not been spared of this mis-management acts with impunity and recklessness. This paper is considered apt in view of the 2017 Umudike Conference of the Nigeria Institution of Agricultural Engineers (NIAE), which theme was “Dynamics of Agricultural Engineering for food and Agro Industrial Raw Materials Production for Economic Recovering in Nigeria”. It ends with some recommendations that can lead the way to agricultural revolution for rural development and socio-economic development of Nigeria.

In the present paper was carried out radiography of the rice market in Romania, during 2007-2015. Romanian culinary tradition has a strong impact on the evolution of the rice market in our country. Rice is an important food for about 50% of the planet's population and its consumption has beneficial effects on the health of the population. In order to highlight the evolution of the rice market in Romania and the changes that have taken place on this market, a series of relevant indicators have been used, such as: rice areas cultivated at national and macro-regional level; Total rice production at national and macro-regional level; Average rice production at national and macroregional level; Rice prices; Consumption of rice at national level; Imports and exports of rice. During the analyzed period there was a positive evolution of this market because, on the one hand, we are witnessing an increase of rice surfaces and production, and on the other hand, we have identified changes in the consumption behavior of rice. Consumers in our country are aware of the rice-specific nutritional properties and have begun to use a range of varieties of this product. Rice consumption in Romania is about 4 kg rice / year /per capita. The statistical data used in the paper was provided by the National Institute of Statistics.

Due to the acute competition in the market of educational services, it is obvious that focusing on students' interests represents a factor of performance and, implicitly, of the competitiveness of each higher education institution. In this context, we can highlight the partnership with students as one of the most effective instruments, which can be used both to diagnose the problems of professional training and to solve them through joint efforts. This investigation is focused on the following objectives: a) assessing the quality of engagement with students in order to increase the effectiveness of vocational training in higher education institutions in the Republic of Moldova and b) experimenting with the method of partnership with students, evaluating the obtained results. In order to achieve the purposes, the following research methods were used: the synthesis of the conceptual approaches of the partnership, the opinion survey method, the interview, the case study. The main conclusions of the investigation reveal the current state and the deficiencies of the students' engagement in the higher educational institutions of the Republic of Moldova, as well as the advantages of the partnership (proven by experimentation) as a factor of effectiveness of the professional education as well as a factor of institutional competitiveness.

The study investigated perception and attitudinal behavior of lecturers in the use of ICT in classroom teaching and learning in Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike. A structured questionnaire was administered on a 5 point Likert-type questions to 120 of the 550 lecturers following simple random technique. The collected data were analyzed by finding means of respondents’ feelings and hypothesis with correlation coefficient. The means showed that ICT facilities are not frequently used in classroom teaching/learning by the lecturers (x̅ = 2.20). However, multimedia projector (x̅ = 3.49) and computer (x̅ = 3.36) were mostly used. The lecturers perception (x̅ = 3.05) was positive and their attitudinal behavior (x̅ = 2.89) was negative in the use of ICT in classroom. The correlation coefficient (r) was 0.373 and significant at 5% critical alpha level. It implies that there was a positive significant relationship between perception of ICT and attitude of the lecturers in the use of ICT. We advised that lecturers should put in more effort in the use of ICTs order than the multimedia and computer in classroom teaching/learning.

The study assessed the perception of youths about Osun State Rural Enterprise and Agricultural Programmes (OREAP) in Osun State, Nigeria with a view to examine the socio-economic characteristics of the participating youths and their perceptions towards OREAP. A multistage sampling procedure was used to select 113 respondents. Interview schedule was used to collect data which were subjected to descriptive and inferential analysis to test the hypothesis. The results show that the mean age of the participants was 28.5 years with standard deviation of 4.3, about 62.8 percent were males with an average annual income of N166, 477.0K. Also, about 67.3 percent of the respondents indicated that the reason for participating in the programme was to be a well-trained farmer. Findings revealed that sources of information (χ2 =4.937, p≤0.05), occupation (χ2 = 7.224, p≤0.01) were significantly associated to the perception of youths towards OREAP. Farm size (r=-0.367, P≤0.01), capital expenses (r= -0.655, P≤0.01) and income per annum (r= -0.310, P≤0.05) were significantly but negative related to the perception of youth towards OREAP. It was concluded that the main factors that limit youth involvement in the programme are inadequate materials services and finance among others. The major factors influencing youth participation in OREAP are youth unemployment, youth interest in agriculture and information availability.
